The PV cost calculator from https://www.kyocerasolar.com/buy/pv_calculator.html can estimate the environmental benefits of installing a 4 kW PV system for a typical American home.  Based on the result, it said over the first year of operating the 4 kW PV system reduced one’s auto driving by 7468 miles!  This eliminates 6224 lbs of CO2 over the first year of operation.

In a hypothetical example, if each of the 10 million households in the US has a 4kW PV system, this helps eliminate 62.24 billion lbs of CO2 over the first year of operation, or equivalent to reducing driving by 74.68 billion miles!

NOTE: A 4kW PV system costs about $10000 USD for each household, and government incentives are needed to encourage more homes in the US to install PV systems.
